I am a biographer, author and broadcaster.
My main books are lives of Muammar Qaddafi, Ian Fleming, Rudyard Kipling, Dylan Thomas, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Wilkie Collins,
In October 2023 my book The Worlds of Sherlock Holmes was published by Frances Lincoln.
I also write and review for a large number of newspapers and magazines.
I lecture and speak at schools, universities and literary festivals.
I have worked as a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Queen Mary University of London.
I am a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Historical Society.
